So I have reviewed several hydroplane boat plans. I have built a few hydroplanes. Based on my experience, I am going to tell you about one of the cheapest and easiest to build hydroplane boat plan.

Because of it's lower time requirement and higher performance, the inventor of this plan calls it a 'minimax'.These are fast outboard – powered planes mainly used for water sports on protected waters. Many experienced boat builders make changes according to their requirements and make their version of ‘minimax’.

This is one of the simplest hydroplane boat plans. It can be built in just one day. It is around 8 ft long and 70 lbs in weight. One man can easily hold it on a car top It's watertight air compartment supports 900 lbs. even with the cockpit completely filled with water. Fiberglass tape on all seams makes the hull completely watertight. Depending on the motor you use you can achieve a speed up to around 40 mph.

You require two 8 ft long, 4 ft wide and ¼ in thick plywood pieces to build it. Frame is held to an absolute minimum with plywood sinkstressed to offer greatest strength to weight ratio. The hull is developed on the plywood as the work progresses. So, it does not require any building form. The motor board consists of two pieces 1×8 in. stock, edge glued and sandwiched between two layers of ¼ in. plywood.
