I Corinthians 1 - Grace And Peace To You

The theme of I Corinthians 1, and all of I & II Corinthians for that matter, is found in verse 3, "Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."

What exactly is Paul saying? Is he asking God to give us His grace and peace? Is he asking us to receive grace and peace from God? To fully understand the wording Paul used, it’s helpful to note Romans 4:17, in which we are instructed that God “calls things that are not as though they were.”

Think about creation. God said “Light, be!” and light was. Think about the miracles Jesus performed. To the cripple he said, “Stand up” when he couldn’t, and then he could.

That’s exactly what Paul is doing in I Corinthians 1 in verse 3. He is declaring that we have grace and peace from God. And that’s a good thing, because grace and peace are essential to our success in this life and in our relationship with God.

To have grace means that God’s favor is on you. In other words, you get good breaks that you normally wouldn’t get. The traffic lights turn green for you when you’re in a hurry, or you get accepted at that job you’ve been hoping for, or someone goes out of their way to appreciate you. That’s favor!

Peace is just as powerful as grace. It means that your mind, spirit, and body are in perfect harmony with Jesus Christ. His thoughts become your thoughts, his reality becomes your reality. In other words, his power heals you, frees you, and comforts you.

Be blessed and inspired by I Corinthians 1. God’s grace and peace is yours through Jesus Christ!
