I Am Optimistic About The Future Of Wireless Plans
Most of plans today require that you know ahead of time how many minutes you are going to use in a given month and if you guess low you are penalized heavily but you guess too high you will give up the minutes you did not use. Of course if you are lucky to find a company the rolls over the extra minutes then you will build up a back log of extra minutes. All of this worrying about minutes used will be academic as you will soon see. A new wireless cellular phone has been recently introduced that will change how we design wireless plans. This phone was introduced by Motorola last October and what this phone has will revolutionize the industry and that is it has the ability to connect to the internet like a VOIP (Vioce Over Internet Protocol) phone and does this by using WiFi. So if most of your calls are made near a WiFi base station or kiosk you will not be charged anything but the fixed monthly fee for any of your minutes while you are talking over the internet. Like VOIP you will have unlimited local and long distance calling minutes while using WiFi. The wireless plans of the future will continue to change as the technology changes. Bluetooth headsets will play an important part in this evolution. An important part of the evolution of wireless plans is GPS and satellite communications. Because of the power available in your car I can see your car becoming a WiFi base station. With new requirements of the FCC and E911 some how GPS and satellite communications will have to be part of the new packages. WiFi Base stations will be everywhere we go, in our homes and where we work. The interesting part of this phone is that it has the ability to connect to either a WiFi base station or a Wireless cellular phone tower. What really makes it unusual is that it has two IP addresses so you can walk from one place using one WiFi base station to another WiFi base station without any interruption. The wireless cellular phone has the ability to know when to use an IP address or a cell phone tower without missing a beat. This technology will definitely enhance the 3G phones because WiFi data communication speeds nearly double the speed. Of course for now the phone is a little pricy so for most of us we will have to put up with what is available right now and what will meet our budget requirements. It will be interesting what the cell phone companies will do to make up for the lost revenue. Text messaging and downloading are bringing in record revenues so any lost revenue changes in new technologies will be made up through adding in new services.
