It is a common reaction when people ask me my occupation. They would just stare blankly at my face when i reply. I would sometimes mention that I am a content writer or simply a 'writer'. But these terms were misleading that they would think that I am author of some book and start asking weird questions. Bur recently, when i bumped into this word "Article Marketing" while doing some SEO research for a client, i knew what my job was from now.
I was into Article Marketing from now on. Though I had been in this line for two years but never knew it was a valid word. And now when i tell people my occupation, they don't even bother to respond. The brave hearts would venture in to the territories and the moment they hear the words SEO or Internet marketing, they run away.
So what exactly is Article Marketing? How important is it for SEO and online marketing. I have tried to figure some stuff and write it in simple words. Read and see what an 'Article marketers' thinks 'article marketing' is.
Wiki says "Article marketing is a type of advertising in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry. These articles are made available for distribution and publication in the marketplace." They couldn't put it simpler than that. Article marketing is exactly what the phrase suggests. Marketing your business through articles. Keyword rich Content articles are written and floated in free publishing areas(called article directories) to promote one's business. these articles will contain backlinks to the business website. When people search for a certain keyword on search engines, they might bump into this article. Clicking on the links will lead to your website and voila! half the work is done. Article Marketing has got the prospective customer to the website, now it is up to the product/ service to convert him into a client.
To explain this with an example: I write 10 articles for ABC International promoting their website abc/dot/com. Now ABC sells maternity wear. I do some ground research and find out that when people look for maternity clothing on the internet, they type maternity wear, maternity clothing, maternity clothes and pregnancy clothing. The articles are framed around this topic and have each of these four keyword written twice. I upload these to 10 article directories. Each article has two backlinks on the relevant keywords. To do some maths, the website link is now floating 200 times(10 articles X 10 directories X 2 links) on the chosen KW's in the internet. The more times the link is distributed the better the chances of it being picked up when someone types the KW's.
Article Marketing is thus being seen as a quick way of exposure and advertising one's business. Though a very small part of SEO, it surely is a very effective one. Try telling someone you are into Article Marketing and see the affect it has on them! :)
