"i Was Upset With Wanderlei"

Tatame’s website interviewed Mauricio “Shogun” Rua about his UFC debut on September 22nd against TUF Season One winner Forrest Griffin. The interview did confirm that Wanderlei Silva has left the Chute Boxe Academy that brought so much success to Silva over the past decade. Rua is now the most notable face at Chute Boxe, and even though Silva has left, Rua stated in the interview that, “Wand is a great friend of mine and I [will] never fight against him.”

It does seem like Rua was unaware that Wanderlei trained at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas until the rest of us found out, but I don’t believe Silva trained with Griffin even though Griffin trains at Xtreme Couture. Shogun commented, “He trained with me, and went to train with the guy I will fight.” Wanderlei being there was more for Couture than anything else as the two have become friends and business partners of sorts.

Rua also talked about the recent addition of BJJ expert Fabricio Werdum to Chute Boxe and how his ground game has evolved during his training time with Werdum. “Shogun” recently got married but he won’t let that get in his way tonight, and he made one thing very clear, “I’m already back and I’ll be 100% on the day fight.”
