Icp Music Videos Vs. Normal Hip Hop Music Videos

Anyone who’s ever been privy to an ICP music video knows that they’re not the same kind of rap music videos that the rest of hip hop nation (term is the name of a satellite radio station, but also refers to the body of all hip hop fans, hence hip hop nation) is accustomed to.

ICP music videos, not surprisingly, are as dark and twisted as their song content, but never to the point of gore or over-the-top violence as is commonplace in too many videos in the rest of hip hop nation. But aside from all that, there is one attribute prevalent in hip hop nation culture and hip hop nation videos: next-to-naked women.

I’m not trying to sit here and proclaim that this near nudity in plenty of videos throughout hip hop nation is a good or bad, but it is noticeably absent in ICP music videos. So why aren’t there cleavage-laden Juggalettes running around the set of every ICP music video?

It starts with the content of Insane Clown Posse’s songs. How many of them would actually lend themselves to sexual portrayal of Juggalettes? The answers is probably zero. After all, Insane Clown Posse’s musical categorization is that of horror rap, and it should be pretty obvious from that title alone that there is little place for Juggalettes in bikinis or Juggalettes in underwear when the content has to do with murder, death, suicide, or other morbid topics.

Now compare this to the body of work put together by America’s hip hop nation superstars like Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and so many more. Much content put out by these members of hip hop nation is heavily wrought with topics like partying, sex, and ego flaunting in general. These topics are obviously much more susceptible to women’s roles in music videos, unlike ICP’s horror rap topics that would never see a Juggalette dancing in an ICP music video.

What other reasons could there be for ICP music videos not exploiting Juggalettes like many videos from hip hop nation exploit women, albeit non-Juggalette women?

Could it be a regional thing? Many of the mainstream hip hop nation members mentioned above come from either the south or from cities known for their glitz and glam. Insane Clown Posse hails from Detroit, which is neither of these things. ICP music videos do depict things that Detroit is known for, favorably or unfavorably, like classic cars, trailer parks, and general blue collar lifestyle. ICP music videos do not feature excessive partying or product placement, another key feature of the videos from typical hip hop nation.

Juggalette exploitation or no Juggalette exploitation, ICP music videos continue to be hits year after year, which proves that their song content is what’s most important to fans, not the visual enticements other rappers place in their videos.
