Ideas On Getting Your Novel Published
Unfortunately, finding an agent, as well as a publisher for a first time novelist is often as tedious, sometimes even more so, than writing the novel itself. There are plenty of would be novelists out there, and plenty of starving agents. The trouble is, most agents want a novelist who has already been published, so you're stuck in that old catch 22. Before you start shopping your book around, you'll need to create a powerfully compelling description in about two paragraphs of your entire novel. Agents are inundated with proposals all day long, and you've got to make yours sound better than all the rest. The agent is looking for something that they can quickly get a book deal with, so try to make it as easy on them as possible. That means make your book sound like something plenty of people will want to buy. The next step is to make sure that the first couple of chapters are equally as compelling. Often times if the description of your book is interesting enough, they'll ask to read the first three chapters. Take the time to really go through these first chapters to make sure your writing is perfect, concise, and really grabs their attention and makes them want to read more. If you can afford it, have a professional look it over. Most importantly, it's crucial to realize that finding an agent, and getting published, especially for a first time novelist, is purely a numbers game. There's a lot of competition today, and agents are hungry for books that they know will sell. Plenty of websites have extensive listings of agents, and most of them will accept queries by email. This means you could easily send out twenty or thirty queries a day. Keep this up for a few months, and your bound to find somebody that's interested. It takes much more persistence that you may have expected to get published. However, if you keep on sending out queries day after day, you will eventually find somebody that's interested. It's just simple matter of not giving up. And since it doesn't take very long to send out twenty emails a day, you'll have enough time to start your next book.
