Important Things Fire Fighters Should Do After Stopping The Fire

You might think that the job of the firefighters is over after they put out the fire. Wrong. They still have many responsibilities after putting out the fire. The action does not stop when flames are no longer visible.

You might be confused why firefighters do certain things after their operations. People raise their eyebrows when they see them deliberately break the glasses off the windows. They even make holes on the roof. This is creating more damage to the property, right.

Although you do not want your house to take more beating than it already had, the above-mentioned activities are necessary procedures. This provides ventilation. Ventilation gives the firefighters a safer environment to work on. Here is how.

When there is fire, the heat and smoke goes up, when it is trapped, it tends to go on an outward direction. Trapping the smoke inside the property will suffocate the people in it. It also makes the environment warm. Holes on the roof and windows will release these elements.

Aside from that, they have other responsibilities. These are:

1. Checking the area to prevent fire to reignite

You will see them scouting for possible flames lurking beneath the debris. Most carry dry powder fire extinguisher and they use it on small flames that can possibly start a fire all over again.

2. Looking for victims

They do this to ensure that everyone is safe. They need to conduct this especially when someone is missing. Although there is a slim chance that the person survived, it is important that they are able to retrieve the person.

This is another reason why they need ventilation. Ventilation provides a clearer view.

3. Help the people salvage their belongings

They also help the victims with their property. They assist them with the restoration. They see to it that they contained the fire fully. This will prevent further damage on the property.

4. Gather the fire equipment

After using their equipments, they have to gather it and put it back in the fire truck. They conduct an inventory of the items used and reconcile it with the equipments they brought to the scene.
These items include the fire hose, the ladders, and other extinguishing devices.

5. Check their fire equipments

They also need to check their personal gadgets like the fire suits, helmets, gloves, boots, and masks. They have to see to it that they are in top shape. They will check possible damages caused by the operation. If there is, they have to repair it right away or procure a new gear. This is necessary because they do not know when they will receive a call for help again.

Many admire the firefighters because of the things they do for the community. They risk their own safety for the survival of other people. They also conduct training on fire safety and proper use of fire fighting devices like dry powder fire extinguisher. They may have procedures that caused confusion but it is also for the benefit of the operation and the people in the long run.
