Increase Your Metabolism And More Effectively Control Your Weight

What is the best way to increase your metabolism? If you don't know already, metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories. You perhaps know of someone who doesn't seem to gain an ounce even though they eat plenty. The reason they stay thin is likely due to their high metabolic rate. This usually decreases slightly as we age but some aren't impacted by it much. These people have obviously kept up a healthy lifestyle and avoided the weight gain. No matter what your age, you can increase your metabolism to lose weight faster with the following tips.

Don't skip breakfast. Those on a diet may be tempted to skip meals but it is the worst thing you can do. You will only be hungrier later in the day and more prone to eat junk foods. Eating a good breakfast gives your metabolism a boost and prevents overeating later. Coffee and doughnuts do not count. Though you may get a spark of energy from the sugar and caffeine, it won't last and you risk lowering your metabolic rate. Breakfast should consist of complex carbohydrates from whole grains and protein.

Build muscle to increase your metabolism. As we get older, we tend to lose muscle tone which is known as muscle atrophy. The secret is to preserve it and keep your metabolism elevated. Muscle isn't familiar with age. You can start building muscle mass with weight training. This is especially important since most of us aren't as active in our latter years. It doesn't mean you have to be bulky but just tone up and target bigger muscle groups for better outcomes. Start doing your sessions three times weekly for twenty minutes and build up to five days a week. Skip a couple days a week to let the muscles to rest.

Don't eat too little. You should eat enough to meet the needs of your body. It takes energy for the body to perform through the day. Not eating enough can reduce metabolism just as eating too often. Resist the temptation to cut your calories drastically. The key here is to stay away from the high calorie, high fat foods. Processed food and fast food is higher in fat. Most health care experts recommend at least 1500 calories daily and no less than 1000.

These are a few ways you can increase your metabolism and lose the weight you want. Keep in mind you must be consistent with your exercise and diet plan. In the end, you will feel better and have more energy than you ever dreamed. You don't have to deal with a sluggish metabolism regardless of your age.
