Increase Your Website’s Traffic In 3 Easy Steps

Everyone who has a website, no matter what you do or promote, needs to get traffic or site visitors and preferably lots of them, However not all traffic has equal value. We need our traffic to be targeted, that is a website visitor who is already interested in buying what we have to offer or reading our subject matter before they even get to our site.

Does this sound difficult? Don’t panic it’s not as hard as you may think. Anyone can buy traffic or hits, (it's usually money down the drain), but I hope to show you and prove to you how to get lots of highly targeted traffic to your site, I am going to show you how to do it free, and in three easy steps...

The methods I use may be considered unorthodox traffic generation methods, but they work very well and I use them everyday.

Step one, Optimize your site for search engines. The most successful sites on the internet and the ones with the highest traffic and are the most visible ones, but how do you achieve increased visibility? Answer you need to be up at the top of the results for your chosen keywords, i.e. when your customer types your product or subject into the search box you need to be at least on page 1 or better still in the top 10 on page 1 of the results returned. The simple rule is, the better the position the higher the traffic. The method we use to do this is called search engine optimization.

SEO or search engine optimization could, and does, fill a whole book, but here are a few tips that will increase your traffic.

Use the alt tag in your images (the alt command tells your page what text to display should your image not display or load for some reason), it will look something like this within your line of html code for your image, ALT="stuff", where stuff is the text to display and also your keyword. As well as the alt tag give the file a name that is also one of your keywords, for example if stuff is your keyword call the image file stuff.jpg as opposed to a more generic name.

Mention your keyword or key word phrases often in your content, and mention your main keyword, the one you want to rank best on, near the very top of your page.

Most search engines do not use the META tags anymore but make sure they are filled in correctly, and that your page title also contains your main keyword. There are many free META tag generators available to download as well as many web based ones, a search will give you plenty of options.

In brief the first step to increase web traffic can be summarized in one phrase, optimize for your keywords and your web traffic will follow.

Step two, Join some internet directories. While internet directories are no longer as widely used as search engines, some people do use them. It is important that you do not overlook the traffic generation potential, the site visitors and therefore customers that these directories can bring to your site. To join an internet directory you will have to submit your site for approval, and you will be categorized accordingly. Believe me for the free traffic it will bring it is well worth the effort.

Step three. Provide fresh content. Your site must continually be updated if you expect your visitors to keep coming back. Your site must have useful content, as well as tools that will help your target audience. Make your site as easy to navigate as possible, and be sure that your links work and all your pictures and images display correctly (no little red crosses). There is nothing that frustrates people and drives away your traffic more than a “broken” website, and once your site has been labeled as such, chances are slim that many people will want to come back.

If you take a few hours today to try these three simple steps you will see an increase in traffic. However for continued growth the best strategy is to continue to work on your traffic building strategies. Check back on the success of keyword optimization in a month and tweak if necessary, continually to add to your site content and features. I truly believe this is one of those cases where the harder you work then the greater will be your reward.

The best tip I can give you is to take your online business seriously, make sure you get the best affiliate marketing information and training available to help you to succeed.
