Increase Your Article Traffic. Tricks To Achieve Keyword Relevance!

If you are a beginning affiliate marketer, or an old pro, the chances are that you use articles to generate traffic and back links to your websites. Everyone does that. You've probably picked a few keywords and try to use them as often as possible in the article.

But, are you using the keywords enough or maybe too much?

There is a golden ratio for how many times your keywords should show up in your article. You don't want to go too far above, or too far below the target otherwise your article won't index very well on Google or other search engines. This is often referred to as keyword density.

Keyword density is based off of the ratio of the words in your site or article to the specific keywords you are trying to focus on. The density is normally represented as a percentage. The term 'keyword' is used for single words or phrases, it is actually more often a phrase. Though we will often be referring to several words, we will call them a 'keyword'.

As you can see getting the keyword density is simply a matter of counting the words in the document, then finding the number of times your keyword occurs in the document and divide the keyword count by the word count and multiply by 100

(KC ÷ AWC) Ã-- 100 = Density %
2 ÷ 88 Ã-- 100 = 2.27%

Why do the search engines care about keyword density?

Keyword densities are an important part of how the internet is indexed and referenced. The density of the keywords on any page is the prime indicator as to what that page is about. Initially the search engines looked at something called the 'meta keywords' which are keywords specifically placed in a part of a web page's code. However, a lot of people misused those keywords and used terms that were not relevant to their page.

For example, a site selling a basic doll may have put 'Barbie' in their keywords to get the search engines to think their site was about Barbie dolls. Needless to say this caused a lot of confusion in the early days of the internet and the Search Engines (SE's) quickly had to work out a way to determine what a webpage is really about.

One of the ways they did this was to simply read the page and look at its content. It was determined through study, as well as trial and error that there was an average number of times that a person would naturally refer to what a page was about. This was the basis for the keyword density
