RYA is the national body in the United Kingdom which is responsible for all forms of boating such as yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, sport boats and RIBs, dinghy, inland cruising and narrow-boats, powerboat racing and personal watercraft. The mission of RYA is to encourage safe, enjoyable and successful sailing and motor-boating. RYA also provides sailing courses which are recognized (both in UK and the rest of the world) for their high quality. This is because RYA works in collaboration with governments and other key boating organizations to develop courses which concentrate on excellence and addresses the key fields of boating.

Currently there are over 2000 training centers which are acknowledged by RYA. Most of these training centers are based in the UK, while the others are based in the USA, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand. The advantage incurred by a person procuring a course recognized by RYA is that the person will be able to obtain a world recognized qualification. This means that the probability of the person obtaining a financially secure job is higher.

There are several ways to search for a RYA sailing school. The easiest method is to use the internet. A simple search on the internet will result in a large number of boating school websites. Visit several of these websites and find the boating school which is closest to your location. Also it is advisable to check with RYA in order to make sure that the boating school is recognized by RYA. This is important because there are several websites which claim that they have been recognized by RYA (in order to gain students), but aren’t really certified by RYA.

If there is more than one institution which offers RYA sailing courses close to your location, then there are two other factors that can be used to select the most suitable institution. The first factor to be considered is the level of education provided by the institution. This can be done by checking to make sure that the institution has adequate material for the course, making sure that the course is conducted by professionals of the field and by checking the number of years that the institution has been offering courses to students. Generally, the longer the institution has been functional, the more reputed it is.

The second factor to be considered is the expense. You have to decide beforehand the amount of money that you are willing to spend on the course. Don’t accept the theory that “the more expensive the course is, the better it will be”. This theory is not always true. Use these two factors to help you select a course which is both economic as well as reputed.
