How Many? The reality of that question applied to Miniatures
One of the miniature furniture decisions that you will have to make is answering this question: How many miniatures can I have in one room? It really depends on the room that you are trying to furnish and how it looks once the furniture is installed. First, the rule of thumb is not trying to cram too much furniture, yes I know that it is fun, but everything has its limits. Second, the more stuff that you put in the more fresh clean space that you will be left without. In the end space needs a balance too, what is there with what is not there. Empty space when it is balanced relays a message of relaxation, cleanliness, and appeal. On the other hand if you have too much space then you simply ask: Is that it? In the end there is no true answer because there are some many variants.
Flooring, Changing the Base of your House
Flooring is a very interesting topic because no one really thinks to change it, and yet those that do always turn out more amazing than before. Flooring can be a great design medium because it is the foundation for all of your furniture. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. You have many choices in this decision and every type of flooring will not work for each room - The standard 5 are Carpet, Linoleum, Tile, Stone, and Hard Wood. Carpet is a really fun choice, because it makes the kit seem like a miniature version of your house. A quick fix to bathroom or kitchen rooms is linoleum and tile. Adding Stone for your deck, hardwood for your living room will add a fun touch - look around and find the best option
Floor Trim for your Dollhouse
As you are building and tweaking your dollhouse you will discover some great time saving secrets. The last dollhouse that I was making I discovered a great addition that really made my interior stand out. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. I painted them white, which went with all the walls in my dollhouse, and attached them to the floors throughout the house. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. I realize that this little invention, though not my own, really made my flooring look flush and neat against the wall.
