International Divorces – The Cost Effective Alternative

Do you and your spouse currently live completely separate lives, to the point of living in separate countries? Do you both think that it’s time to finally just cut things off and get divorced? There are many international couples that feel this way, but are afraid to go through the process because of the expenses involved. Normally, this process would involve one or both of you flying out several times in order to meet with an attorney and attend various meetings. Airfare, attorney’s fees, court costs, hotel stays, all of these together can cause things to become very expense. There is, however, an alternative.

An international divorce can be the alternative that you’re looking for. Most lawyers won’t tell you about this option because they would lose out on their consultation and legal fees, so try doing a little bit of research on your own online or talk to an attorney that specializes in international divorces to see if this is the right choice for you. While international divorces are widely recognized as legal, it’s still important to be sure that the jurisdiction you’re living in will recognize it as legal, as well as the area that your spouse is living in.

Keep in mind that in order to obtain an international divorce, you and your spouse must be in agreement and ready to go your separate ways amicably. There’s generally only one visit involved when you go to apply for an international divorce, and the stay required normally isn’t longer than a week. In fact, in some locations only one spouse needs to be present, which can be a huge bonus if you have trouble finding a way to make your two schedules match so that you can both go at once. If you are in agreement on financial matters as well as child support, you may be able to have that settled in court at the same time as your divorce. If not, it can be settled outside of court at a later time.

International divorces are an excellent way for international couples to finally be able to cut ties and go their separate ways without having to worry about the cost. An international divorce is often much cheaper than a regular divorce, running an average of $2,500 to $8,000. Don’t stay married just because you think you can’t afford it, get an international divorce and finally get the closure you both deserve.
