Internet Marketing Secrets: Making It Big... By Aiming Small

The title of this piece probably comes across as counter intuitive to some of us, but do hear me out. Now, we all know the first step to jumpstart your internet business is to set goals. But too often, people started off in their internet ventures with totally unrealistic goals or no goals at all. Either way, flying blind is no way to run a business!

So, why aim small? The more ambitious amongst us may have lofty ambitions, but how do we get there? The strategy of turning dreams into tangible results lies in how we "divide and conquer" - splitting the ultimate goal into smaller, achievable parts or milestones.

For example, when I first started out, my aim was to be able to reach a monthly earning of $5,000 within a year. So, as an initial milestone, I aimed for $1,000 a month. I hit that figure within six months, so I adjusted the target upwards and I finally reached the $5,000 mark after a year or so. Since then, I have regularly pulled in a five-figure income on a monthly basis.

Now, there is something about achieving little milestones that keep us going forward, until bigger goals are conquered and more ambitious targets are set. In fact, even before that $1,000 goal, my first aim was to close my very first sale. As the saying goes: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step." Like everyone else, we need that sale to prove to ourselves that this whole "make money online" business is for real.

I still remember my first sale. It was a $20 affiliate product from Clickbank. In the days that followed, I made another few hundred dollars and needless to say, I was thrilled beyond words. So, to jumpstart your journey, start aiming for your first sale, followed by modest monthly targets. Once you closed that first few sales, your mind opens up. Although there's still a long way to go, the possibilities of making it big and achieving financial freedom suddenly seemed not that far-fetched anymore. That's the kind of momentum you need to spur your business further past more milestones - towards your ultimate goal and success.
