Inventive Teensy Fisher Price Doll Accessories: Planing Hints

Designing by Mood

Designers might know about lighting, and colors, but only the great ones design for mood. A mood is the purpose of the room, the reason that it exists. A great example is a play room where the sole purpose of the room is to have fun and enjoy oneself. One more example would be the bedroom, the most personal quarters, and is designed for only one person. Great dollhouses are no different. Visualize what mood you would like to portray in your rooms, for what purposes would they have that room and what particular mood would they set. When you tap into the mood you will know it, and the design of the room will just fall in place as if it was meant to be there all along.

Dollhouse Flooring Options

It is the small things that once changed make the biggest difference, and in this case flooring is a great small change for a big difference. Flooring can be a great design medium because it is the foundation for all of your furniture. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. Carpet is a really fun choice, because it makes the kit seem like a miniature version of your house. A quick fix to bathroom or kitchen rooms is linoleum and tile. The hardest type of flooring to add is a stone or hard wood option, but in the end these are the best from a designing standpoint.

Sizing to Your Advantage

Always, always remember that there are different sizing elements in miniatures. Here are the sizing elements, there are three: Miniature scales, size of room dimensions, and comparative size. First is the scale of furniture, make sure that your furniture is the right scale for your dollhouse. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. Size element is the second point, and this is as simple as making sure that your furniture will actually fit in the room. Take out a ruler and measure the square inches of the room and compare it to your incoming furniture dimensions. Finally, relative or comparative size is the size of the furniture in relation to other pieces in the set. Smaller pieces will get less attention than other pieces, and the larger pieces should be the ones that you want everyone to look at.

Making your Miniature House Better: Floor Trim

If you are a true crafter you are constantly tweaking your creations. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I discovered the importance of having trim around your floor. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. The wallpaper walls were also trimmed and I was really happy to see that it prevented fraying due to covering the edges. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.
