Is A Military School The Answer To My Child's Behavior Problem

Some parents are desperate and want to solve their child's behavior problems by sending them to a military school. This is of course one possibility but when you read of parents who have a six year old child who is acting out, then you begin to wonder if this is really the answer to a child behavior problem.

Apart from the age problem - it is highly unlikely that a military or boarding school would accept a child so young, there is the problem of the parents not being present in the child's most formative years. At home, in the meantime,their reaction to the situation can sometimes makes things even worse ! There are shouting matches and punishments are doled out to the six year old child but the problem is that these are not being effective at all and the situation is getting out of hand rapidly.

The parents in this case need to find a therapist or a program which will take them through all the parenting skills and techniques they need to deal with defiant children,verbal abuse, aggressive and violent bouncing off the walls and generally disruptive child behavior.

Often, a child will use violent behavior as a manipulative tool because once he sees that it works and gets him the attention he needs, then he will use it again and again. In a therapy course or program, parents can learn what to do, how to approach the child, what to to when there is a meltdown and/or a tantrum.

Parents can learn other child behavior strategies,for example, how to reason with a difficult teenager even when he is being abusive towards them. There are strategies for putting into action behavior plans, consequences and rewards and also having an emergency plan in place when and if a meltdown occurs. There are even suggestions about how to avoid certain situations developing and you can learn to use time out effectively both for yourself and the problem child.

Your house could soon be an oasis of peace after the battlefield it was not so long ago. By following a child behavior program, you can really learn a new set of skills which will restore your control of the kids in your home and make your home a happy place again and you can watch your child grow and develop into a well balanced individual without ever sending him away to a military school.
