Is Email Marketing Right For Your Business?

The concept of email marketing is easy to understand. A business can send out emails, (to people how have given their permission to receive emails), informing its clients or customers of current events with the business, special offers, information on related products or services, continuing education about products already purchased, or anything else the business would like it’s customers to know about.

But is email marketing right for your particular business? Here are some items to think about when considering whether or not email marketing is a good fit for your business.

Would you like to have repeated contacts with your customer/client base?

Email marketing is an excellent way to stay in touch with your customers and/or clients. An email monthly newsletter fits the bill very well in this regard. It is a regular and constant contact with one of your most important assets – your customers. You can keep them informed about your business, and all the different products and services that you offer.

Many of your customer/clients may not know of all of your offerings, and an email newsletter is a great way to help them get a complete view of your business, and all that it offers.

Would you like to increase the frequency of your customers buying from you?

Email marketing does a good job of creating repeat business. Once some one buys from you, they are much more likely to buy from you again. Especially if you provide a gentle nudge in the form of an email. The email could be in the form of a newsletter as discussed above, or a special notice of a sale, or other special event.

Do you have products or services that lend themselves to repeat purchases?

If you provide a service that needs to be repeated on a regular basis, such as an oil change, or teeth cleaning, or other period maintenance, you can set up your emailing software to automatically send on out a reminder when they are due for the service again. This adds increased value to the services you provide. And gives your customers/clients a reason to return.

Would you like to build a relationship with your customers/clients?

People tend to buy from those they know, like, and trust. Email marketing can go a long way to building a relationship with your customers/clients. As long as you don’t make your emails a hard pushy sales letter, but rather make it a more personal, educational communication you will be building that relationship with your customers/clients.

Would you like to increase the perceived value of your services and products?

If you can increase the value of a product after some one buys it, that would create some significant good will. One way of doing that is with post-purchase follow up information and education about that product. You could provide maintenance tips, usage tips, how to best utilize the product, other add on products that will make the original even more useful. All these things can be accomplished through follow up emails.

So when deciding about email marketing for your business, it is not as simple as just deciding whether to send out emails. It is important to look at the advantages, and how you can best use email marketing to achieve your business goals.
