Is Somalia Piracy Something To Worry About?

With the public eye now greatly fixated on the world of Somalia piracy it is unsurprising that many people have started to worry about getting into situations such as those displayed on the television and if they did, what best to do. Although it seems very much common sense, the first method of escape is simply not to go in the first place, instead take a flight to a nice resort where many people go and stay away from a vast blue ocean that is likely to be hiding secrets you really don’t want to uncover. However, if your still not deterred then here are some possible ways in which you can ensure that you stand the best chances of surviving when out in Somalia waters.

The first thing to note is to be on a big ship, the bigger the ship the less likely that you will be attacked and if you are attacked you are more able to defend yourself by closing possible entrances and by literally moving away from them as fast as possible. A second advantage to taking a big ship is that you will be above shooting height whilst in a smaller vessel, such as a speed boat, you are easy to see and therefore easily shot.

If you are in a small vessel such as a yacht and you find yourself under attack by Somalia pirates then it may be in your best interest to actually stop the boat and simply surrender. However, remember that your country does not negotiate with terrorists and will instead try and recover you by way of military force, by far the worst way to ensure you live, but that’s the way it needs to be in order to deter people from taking to a life of crime we’re told.

Furthermore, remember to take some kind of maritime security tracking device either installed on your vessel or taken with you, by doing this you will be able to alert the guard of your location and give them way to track you which could ensure your swift retrieval, even your iphone can be tracked so maybe if you’ve been on the fence about buying one, before you go to Somalia might just be the right time.

If you are caught keep your head down, keep your body language low and simply agree to do whatever they ask you to in order to ensure your good health. Remember that as long as people know you went and when you should be back then you will be looked for, there are more success stories than there are death ones.
