Recent technologies have made available new treatments to control acne, one that is becoming very popular is the acne blue light therapy. Results on some patients have been very promising, however the results can differ on each person.

What this treatment does, is kill the bacteria that causes your acne, its used to treat vulgaris acne that usually cant be eliminated with other therapies. One of the advantages, is that the blue light therapy does not use ultraviolet light, which is unsafe for your skin.

A patient will require two 15 minute sessions a week of exposure to the light. Usually a total of 8 session is required, each session cost about $100 dollars.

Results

In some studies that have been done on patients, results have been different.

In one study where the blue light was applied to half of the face, the results were clear that the blue light had reduced their acne significantly.

On another study, half of the face got exposure to the light and on the other half clindamycin was applied. The result was a 39% improvement from blue light and 22% from clindamycin. However several weeks after the treatments were done, the clindamycin maintained its effects and the blue light had decreased its effects.

As you can see there is a lot more of improvement and research needed to make a clear conclusion of the results and benefits of the blue light therapy.
