Kc Distance Learning

There are literally hundreds of online schools and other institutions of learning that offer education via the Internet. Some of these are supplemental departments contained within the existing school structure. For example, public and private colleges and universities have departments that are devoted to the management and regulation of distance learning opportunities for their students. Other online institutions offer specialty courses and certificate programs that are tailored for particular job market sectors. Some examples of these types of programs are the ones available for firefighters, medical technicians, and some engineering fields. There are other institutions that focus on certain age ranges and ability levels of the participants. KC distance learning programs fall into the latter category of online educational institutions.

KC distance learning programs are offered to grade school, middle school and high school students specifically. For the last 45 years, KC distance learning has served over 200,000 students in all these grade levels with academic assistance for their educational needs. In the school year 2006 to 2007 over 50,000 students enrolled in KC distance learning programs. Some of the most popular classes offered by KC distance learning are in foreign languages, advanced placement classes and honors classes. As KC distance learning has grown they have increased their offerings from what began as a correspondence based experience to include total school curriculum requirements. Through the Keystone School, students in the middle school and high school can receive their required educational credits. Additionally, KC distance learning offers credit recovery programs, individually designed courses that students can use to supplement their traditional school classes, and a complete virtual school experience.

KC distance learning is fully accredited and also offers a program called iQ Academies. This program is a collaborative effort with state public school systems and charter school systems. This program, available to grade school, middle school and high school aged students is free to in-state residents since the iQ Academies are considered public schools. The KC distance learning program now includes over 100 core curriculum, elective classes and advanced placement classes in the subjects of language arts, math, science, health, history, social studies, foreign language and technology. This is an excellent alternative as well as a rigorous academic supplement for many students who may need or want this type of learning opportunity.
