Kvm Extender: Powerful, Long Range Solution For Extension Of Kvm Peripherals

KVM peripheral devices can be extended up to 1000 feet away from the computer with the help of a KVM extender. Various models transmit signals ranging from 330 ft up to 1000 ft away without any loss of signals. In addition to the long range remote connectivity, these extenders provide connections for local user KVM control right at the console. These extender units comprise of a transmitter and a receiver. While the former is connected to the computer with KVM cables, the latter is connected to the keyboard, video and mouse. These two are then connected together with the help of Cat 5e/6/7 cables thereby eliminating the need for bulky and expensive VGA cables. Together, the sender and receiver are connected to a power supply so that when powered, they can transmit data and video signals with resolutions up to 1920 x 1440 @ 60 Hz. They also have LED’s to show the status of the connected devices. Some models allow multiple computers to be controlled locally and remotely.

These units support multi platforms such as DOS, Windows (3x, 9x, 2000, NT, ME, XP), Novell, Linux, UNIX, HP UNIX, QNX, SGI, FreeBSD, BeOS, Open VMS. The KVM extender provides for easy installation with no additional software set up, plug and play functionality, hot key command and control, high quality data transmission and clutter free environment. Alternatively known as cat5 extender, these extenders are available with optional stereo audio or RS232 control. They also have an auto console for switching between local and remote units and connecting a PS/2 console to any platform. Very recently, these extenders are being made available in various types such as ps2 kvm extender, usb extender or fiber optic extender.

Dual user access can also be provided by these units which is a boon for network administrators in case remote monitoring is required. These units are widely available and useful in situations wherein the main system is implemented in a secure environment. They work very well in factories, building sites, public broadcasting facilities, secure data centers, presentation and training facilities, classrooms, trade shows, military and commercial environments, digital signage solutions and financial institutions.
