Kauai – Poipu Beach, The South Shore Of The Garden Island
There is much to do in Kauai, from snorkeling, diving and fishing to watching turtles, monk seals, dolphins, whales and waves. On the south shore, drenched in sunshine almost year round – and called the sunny side of Kauai, you will find there are several quaint towns – Waimea, Koloa, Lawai, Kalaheo, Hanapepe - each with their own character and charm. Nestled at the southernmost tip, you will find a beach town called Poipu. Here you will find amazing golf courses, luxury hotels, private rental homes and retreats, exclusive shops, gourmet restaurants and numerous sandy beaches with crystal clear water and the crashing waves Poipu was named for. Whether you have little ones, love to stroll the beach, collect seashells, love to snorkel or scuba dive – or even surf - you will find that the beaches in Poipu offer something for everyone. Poipu Beach Park has the safest beach for swimming, and has playground equipment for the kids and several shade structures, restrooms, showers and picnic tables. Prince Kuhio Park offers the best surfing beach area, while Koloa Landing has excellent snorkeling and diving areas. Brenecke’s Beach is great for body surfing and the Sheraton Beach is a spectacular beach in the area and is great for sun and swim. Mahalupu Beach is the largest remote white sand beach on the south shore of Kauai. While you are in Poipu, stop by Sprouting Horn, a natural wonder – a lave tube that forces spumes of salty surf as high as 50 feet in the air. Or just further up the road you can find the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. Not just a resort town - Poipu boasts several private oceanfront or oceanside vacation homes available for rent.
