The majority of marketing pushes are going to be created by multiple people all working together on the same project. The larger your company is the larger the number of people you’ll have access to in order to create your marketing.
This leads to the possibilities of misunderstandings and other issues that can easily arise from the different people who are all working on the same project. You have to be sure to keep people together, and make sure that you have great communications to avoid any issues like this.
I witnessed myself a mishap that occurred between a person who was designing some brochure templates and the person who was taking care of the writing for the brochures.
What happened was that they weren’t properly communicating with each other from the beginning, and both of them thought the amount of text in the final brochure was going to be much different, which led to both choosing to go their own paths in this regard.
What made the matter worse was that everything else had been timed rather precisely. They needed to have the first stages of the brochure done quickly because they already had plans for when they would put in the graphics and when they would send the final brochures to the printer. If anything was delayed, like a domino effect, everything would fall apart.
Sure enough, it wasn’t until the person designing the brochure templates was completely done that they noticed how much writing was being done to fit into this brochure that just didn’t have room for it.
Suddenly they had a template that couldn’t hold all of the writing, and the writing was done in such a way so that cutting out portions of it wasn’t going to be possible. In the end they had to delay everything, which delayed the entire marketing campaign the company had planned, for them to do different writing and create a new approach that would fit with the template that was made.
Had everyone come together at the very beginning to discuss what was going on this would never have happened. Make sure that at the beginning of any major marketing campaign when you know a number of different people are going to be working on it that you make sure everyone is aware of what the others are doing. From there be sure you have a system in place to allow them to easily converse with each other, so if changes do come along you don’t have to worry about everything falling apart because of it.
If you keep communication strong with your company you can be certain that these little mistakes never end up delaying your marketing, and potentially hurting your sales in the long run.
