Kettle Corn - The Gourmet Popcorn

More Or Less sweet, slight salty. Kettle corn is a particular kind of popcorn that has it's own unique flavour. The flavor of kettle corn is less sweet than caramel corn. Sugar, popcorn, corn oil, salt. Those are the single components you'll find in charming kettle corn. It is a particular treat often consumed at fairs or other joyful occasions.


In the 1700s, kettle corn was presented to Colonial palates in the USA. The Pennsylvania Dutch settles also referenced it around the Revolutionary era. The product was widely popular in the early 1800s but dropped from popularity during the 1900s. In the early 2000s, it has established something of a return in America, particularly at 19th century living history events.

The preparation procedure itself is the secret to the appreciation of genuine kettle corn. Using a big kettle allows the sugar to be mixed in while it's popping. Then a splash of salt is added once it's done. Kettle corn is also know as "kettle crack", because of it's addicitive flavor.

Preparing kettle corn at home is very tricky--to begin with, it must be mixed continuously, which you cannot do without covering the pan. Because you must use actual sugar, it scorches rapidly on a stove.

Since they contain no real sugar and tend to scorch, microwave varieties are lousy to real kettle corn. This problem has been "solved" by exchanging sugar with artificial sweeteners such as sucralose. Some individuals are worried about health dangers connected with aspartame, which is an ingredient in some sugar substitutes. Kettle Corn is available at retail merchants across the country, but it's nothing like the real thing fresh from the kettle. Depending on which type of bag is used, kettle corn has a shelf-life of 7 to 10 days. Kettle corn makes a great fundraiser product generating high profits for your group or organization.
