Kia Serento Review

With Kia now offering a 7 year guarantee on all its new vehicles, many people may be tempted to look at it as a serious option for a new car and with the 4x4 Kia Serento hitting the market for as little as £20,000, its easy to see why.

The Kia Sorento, which is a mid-size crossover SUV was originally conceived in 2002. The first version was a bit of a 4x4 workhorse but since then newer models have been developed with a more stylish exterior and comfortable interior giving them a foothole in the broader family based SUV market.

There are currently 5 different engine options 2.4 Petrol 2WD, 2.0 CRDi 2WD, 2.2 CRDi 2WD, 2.2 CRDi 4WD , and 2.2 CRDi 4WD
which have the

All have 6 speed manual options except the 2.2 CRDi 4WD which is Automatic.

The 2.4-liter petrol engine can produce 172bhp where as the 2.2-litre CRDi can produce 194bhp with 311lb/ft of torque which is quite impressive.

The Sorento makes for a comfortable on road driving experience, with good handling and cornering but the lack of dual-range transmission or diff locks means that the off roading capabilities are slightly hampered but not so much that they would put me off the vehicle.

The exterior is sleek and stylish while the interior has a good quality feel to it with dashboard devices and furnishings that are more often associated with higher priced vehicles. Inside there is 2/3/2 seating in 3 rows. There is plenty of room in the first 2 rows with slightly less room in the 3rd row.
In the 2 seater mode there is a massive 1500 litres of spaces which is reduced right down ro 110 litres in the 7 seater mode.

From an emmisions point of view the Serento produces from 169g/km in the 2.0 CRDi 2WD model up to 203g/km in the 2.4 Petrol 2WD Manual version.

The safety aspects of all models are very good with, Twin Front and Side Airbags, Twin Full-Length Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor, ABS with EBD, Adaptive Brake Lights, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and 3-point Seatbelts.

Overall the Serento punches above its weight in terms of price tag and has definately become a contender in the SUV market.
