Klein Karoo National Arts Festival

The Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, or KKNK is an arts and cultural festival held in the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn. Predominantly showcasing Afrikaans work, the KKNK is very popular in the visual arts industry and is one of the biggest events this area sees.

On from April 2nd to April 9th you can expect classical music, dancing of all forms and styles, musical theatre, comedy, theatre performances and a whole host of other things to entertain you. The program is packed with well known artists like David Kramer, Taliep Pietersen and Chris Chameleon as well as performances by the Stellenbosch University Choir and much more. Lectures on various subjects can be attended and exhibitions aim to showcase incredible work done by well known names in the industry as well as newcomers.

A market area makes it possible for artists to sell some of their wares as well as offering visitors some traditional food to complement their day of cultural immersion. There is also a children’s play area so that you can wonder around enjoying the atmosphere without your kids getting bored.

With over 10 years to fine-tune this event the KKNK is a highlight on many people’s calendar for the year. It is a great day out with incredibly entertaining shows and live music keeping your foot tapping from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Many local musicians and bands have gathered a loyal following from events such as this, especially in the Afrikaans community.

This is a very popular event so tickets should be booked early as well as accommodation - Oudtshoorn isn’t a very big town and accommodation options are limited.
