Knowing The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Voip

When the first external dial-up modems taught computers how to place calls and connect to the internet, it has pushed the advancement of technology on saving the phone lines from getting just the garbled fax tone. Nowadays, VoIP has been freeing up those lines in order to still make and receive calls while surfing.

Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages of VoIP, and there are a few things to consider.

One of the advantages of VoIP is the costs to actually call long distance. Since some VoIP client software offer rates that are nearly 80% cheaper than even the promo rates offered by long distance carriers. This way, spending long hours over a VoIP phone can be just as paying for the monthly phone bill.

In the event of a power failure, whether within a small town or city wide, only the phone lines would work since its being fed with its own power. VoIP relies on computers or VoIP phones with an external power from a socket, so the connection will be severed. The same thing can happen when the internet service provider was to have a 'down time', or a loss of connectivity.

The advantages and disadvantages of VoIP may not always deter its practical usage. And like any new invention awaiting public scrutiny it's bound to have some flaws or limitations. This way, there would be some better ways in fixing the problem, and knowing the advantages and disadvantages of VoIP can lead to a better solution.
