Lcd Vs Plasma
Are LCD and Plasma TV's that different? And if so is there a clear winner? On the face of it they don't seem much different; the bright crystal-clear images, super colour-filled pictures, the slim line package and unlike in the early days of their launch they're now both competitive on the price and size side of the equation. So how does the performance stack up in the main picture quality and practicality considerations? Picture Quality Well& overall, Plasma TV's produce better picture quality in terms of colour accuracy, contrast/black levels, and viewing angles. Having said this, the difference is not astronomical and LCD TV manufacturers are constantly improving their performance in this area. Practical Considerations There are many categories I could include in this section but I will just include the ones I think are most important: Computer use: LCD TV's are the preferred option for this as they do not suffer from burn in whilst Plasma screens do. Burn in is simply the faint outline left on the screen when the same picture or logo remains on the screen for a long amount of time. Fast moving video playback: Plasma TV's again come out on top because of their superb handling of fast video. LCD's sometimes suffer from a slight lag effect where the pixels are slightly out of step. However, LCD manufacturers have been steadily increasing refresh rates to combat this. Altitude: Plasma screens do not cope well with changes in air pressure as their display element is actually made of gas and for example when on a plane the low air pressure causes the TV to emit a buzzing sound. LCD's, however, are not affected b y changes in air pressure and thus are the preferred visual display unit on planes. Longevity: In my opinion longevity is even. Even though different manufacturers will claim that theirs is better, I think this is just a matter of quality of the product. Size: Plasma screens have been bigger than LCD's in the past as in Plasma's increasing the size is easy and does not cause any change to the picture quality. The way LCD's are made it has been difficult to make them bigger without upsetting picture quality. However, now, as the whole market advances LCD's are getting bigger. To conclude, I feel that LCD technology is coming along fast and even though Plasma TV's have established performance benchmarks, the differences are dependent on the manufacturer and the quality of the product. P.S Before I forget to mention my company are currently looking for people to test their LCD TV's. For doing this you get to keep the TV for FREE.
