Warner Bros are teaming up this year with the LEGO Group to merge two of the world's most popular brands to create the video game "LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4" which is due for release in early 2010 worldwide.
The game will be based on the first four of the Harry Potter books and movies that will explore the story of Harry Potters first four years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Throughout the game the user will be able to play as the legendary Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, as well as some other all time favourites from the series.
In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1 – 4 users will have the opportunity to attend lessons, cast spells, mix potions, fly on broomsticks and complete other tasks in the witchcraft and wizardry world to earn house points.
As well as taking part in all of this, players will have the opportunity to explore the iconic settings from the films and books including the Hogwarts Castle, Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and the village of Hogsmeade.
There have already been Harry Potter games released in the past but the creators of this game promise that it will be full of fun and LEGO magic and hopes to give gamers a new way of interacting with the Harry Potter universe. Due to the nature of the game, the creators also say that it will appeal to people of all ages especially the generation of gamers who grew up with the Harry Potter franchise.
The LEGO Harry Potter game will be released on all major platforms including the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii. There are some rumours of extra features being available on the Xbox version of the game but as it is still in its early stages we will have to see. The game will be available for pre-order on many online shopping websites.
