Lack Of Online Parental Control Endangers Children

A recently published report has shown that as many as one in five children between the ages of 5yrs and 17yrs have been the subject of sexual solicitations whilst surfing the Internet. The real horror is that in most of the cases the parents were not aware that it had occurred or were even aware of their childrens´activities on the Web.

Seasoned Web users are all too aware of how easy it is to be given access to hardcore pornography whilst innocently searching. Part of my daily routine is searching for niches in Affiliate Marketing and as such I use a number of specialist search tools and these invariably throw up links to pornographic sites even though there is no apparent link or relevance to the initial search keyword. I´ve only recently actually looked at Youtube and was appalled at the amount of very hardcore pornography displayed on there. Considering I had always considered the site, as most Social Networking Sites, to be the playground of the young, I was surprised at the amount of Adult Content.

Squidoo, again very popular amongst the younger generation, has adult content.

I´m sure that many parents aren´t really aware of the full dangers of allowing their children un-monitored access to the Internet or just how easy it is to get access to adult material. In the early stages of the Internet´s development a lot of people made serious fortunes in the Pornography Industry online but access was restricted to paying members - now that has all changed - there are a large number of sites that are completely free of charge and have hundreds upon hundreds of pages of streaming

Video of pornography covering every subject that you can think of. Worse, there are a large number of websites that specialise in publishing shocking and offensive pictures covering horrendous subjects that would sicken most normal adults, never mind young impressionable minds. I´m not advocating censorship here, the Internet has allowed us access to an amazing plethora of information and long may it continue, the ability to search and get information on virtually any subject under the sun is, without doubt, a wonderful thing but it has to be monitored for access by those responsible for allowing minors to view content.

If you´re a parent who has children under 18yrs and you give them access to the web and don´t have any form of monitoring programme then, I can assure you, they will have, at some time, either accidentally or purposefully, accessed some of these sites.

If you don´t have any form of parental control software on your PC then you are making a grave error and exposing your children to untold dangers.

Luckily there are a number of programmes costing around $50 which will give you complete peace of mind and give you information as to which sites have been visited, details of downloads, details of chat conversations etc . The programmable features give you total control over the PC and are very intuitive in operation in they are able to analyze all Internet traffic, not just websites. This means that even objectionable material in instant messaging, peer-to-peer file sharing, and other network communications can be filtered or blocked. Many also use a technology called Dynamic Contextual Analysis (DCA) to analyze and block sites in real time This means, for instance, a site like MSN.com may be allowed at one time and then blocked another, depending on the content of the site at the time. Blocking can be removed by authorised users at any time allowing full Web access. If you´re not utilising any of these programmes you should take immediate steps to rectify the situation and have peace of mind that your children are safe!
