Lampang

Lampang is a northern state in Thailand and has thirteen administrative divisions.

These are:

* Mae Tha

Lampang is located near the Wang River an ancient trading route from China. There are several national parks in the province these are Tham Pha Thai, Chae Son and Doi Khun Than.

Flowers:

Huay Tek botanical flower gardens in Lampang feature an abundance of flower species which have been planted in 10x10m square plots. These Florist Lampang are grown for sale, and often find their ways to the flower markets of Bangkok. Flowers are grown here due to the cool climate of Lampang.

Lampang started life in the late 1600’s and was originally inhabited by the Mon tribe, who did not consider themselves to be Thai (or Tai) since they originated from the great Khmer empire. It was under Burmese rule for many years until the province allied with Siam the great state which eventually became recognized as Thailand.

There are many things to see and do in Lampang. Admire the flower gardens at Huay Tek, take a meandering river ride down the Wang, explore the interesting and ancient architecture of the Chao Pho Shrine or visit the Elephant Conservation Center.

Lampang is well know for its ceramic and terra-cotta. Locals produce fine plates and gourds and religious trinkets made from terra-cotta. Lampang is a great place to visit during Loy-Kratong when candle lit flower boats are floated in the Wang river and beautiful sky lanterns can be seen floating into the sky. Lampang can easily be reached by long distance bus service from Bangkok. Alternatively fly to Chiang Mai and take a coach service from there.
