Large Cruise Liners Out, Private Yacht Charters In?

While large commercial cruise lines may attract their fair share of sea-thirsty (and booze) vacationers annually, there is a secret growing percentage that are looking toward private yacht charters for their cruise vacations.

But how could they turn away from all of the glitz and glamour, shops and clubs offered onboard say a Carnival cruise line? Well it seems this growing percentage of travelers have decided they prefer the privacy and exclusiveness offered by chartering their own yacht. It certainly is an ideal way to chart your own course, rather than be forced to select whatever routes are offered by the mainstream cruise lines.

Let’s think about this phenomenon further. For seasoned cruisers, you know there is a sort-of schedule to follow, however loosely. For example, dinner is normally served at a specific hour, where you don your formal attire and perch yourself at your assigned table and choose from a pre-arranged menu.

You may also spend your days fighting for poolside lounge chairs, waiting in long bar lines where you are overcharged for drinks, and the like. But the worst part is all of the line-waiting that goes along with large cruise lines. Each time you port, you wait to get off, wait to get on, and usually there are cocktails involved with no hope of a restroom (I can tell you this from experience, it can be downright torture).

So if you are willing to give up a few hundred or thousand shipmates, you and your small group can indulge in a luxury yacht charter, or even a luxury party yacht charter for larger groups.

While you lose some of the amenities, like fancy stage shows or swim-up bars, you are afforded the pampering of a private chef, the freedom to decide where you want to go and when, and spared the brutal hot tubs full of children who never seem to need to get out to relieve themselves…makes you wonder what you are soaking in.

Another perk is that smaller yachts can enter smaller ports in more exotic locations that Ocean liners simply cannot. So if you are willing to give up a few (and I mean just a few) of the bells and whistles, a private yacht charter could be the relaxing escape at sea you have been craving.
