Hence, they are appropriate in washing white clothes. Stained white clothes can be allowed to soak in water with biological detergent and then washed. However, there are certain types of fabrics that cannot be washed in this type of detergent. Silk and wool, for instance, can be damaged by harsh chemicals in biological detergents.

Many people manifest allergic reactions to biological detergents. Such reactions can range from minor itchiness to dermatitis. Any detergent that causes such allergic reaction should be discontinued. As a safety measure, you should use gloves when washing your clothes. Another thing would be to switch to milder detergents. Non-biological detergents are reported to be gentler to the skin, but they lack strong chemicals that break down stains more easily.

Detergent with Bleach

Clothes are generally classified into white and colored clothes. White clothes may do well with detergent that contains bleach. You have to separate whites from colored clothes—and wash them separately. You can even use the water used for washing whites clothes especially if it has bleach, because the bleaching agent causes the colored fabrics to become dull.

This suggests that you have to use two types of detergents—one for your white clothes (detergent with bleach) and one for colored clothes (one without bleach).

Going Green

There are so-called detergents that can be used for lightly soiled clothes, and that is their limitation. They cannot be relied upon when the objective is to remove stubborn and heavy stains. Biological detergents are still more effective in removing tough stains. However, you can go for earth-friendly detergents if you are only washing clothes without stains.

There are other ways to go green. For instance, you can choose washers that do not make use much water and detergent. On the other hand, it is almost impossible to wash clothes without the aid of detergents. However, you can try doing with less detergent. Determine the right amount of detergent for every kilogram of dirty clothes. This should minimize waste products being passed into the environment.
