If money was pretty scare in your household when you were growing up, then you might remember your mother putting your new school clothes on layaway. I would always get so excited about the prospect of getting new clothes for school, so when August would rolled around. I would always remind my mother that it was time for us to go shopping for school clothes. Since there were 3 girls in my family and I was the oldest, I always had to find ways to earn money during the summer to help my mom come up with the down payment for the layaway plan for our school clothes
. I used to ask my mother why she could not get a charge card like some of my friend’s parents, but she would just smile and say that with our tight budget layaway was the best way to buy. We only bought what we could afford! Well, as I got older layaway seem to become a thing of the past. For me credit cards became the way to shop and purchase merchandise.
But, since the economic downturn, things are changing!! Layaway is booming and wait a minute, it has gone online!! You can shop online at various stores and put your merchandise on layaway. Shopping online is such a convenient way to shop, but being able to shop online and use a layaway plan is even better. Oh, what a feeling to know that when you pick up your merchandise it is paid for and there is no pesky balance left on a credit card. With those high interest rates on credit cards, many individuals are thinking twice before they just purchase an item with their credit card.
I have been using layaway for the past year and it has save me from overspending.
Whenever, I am tempted to buy a pair of shoes that I don’t need, but feel that I must have. I think of those wise words of wisdom my mother used to say to me when I was growing up.
Layaway is and always has been a great shopping concept for folks like me who are prone to buy things that they don't need. Remember manage your choices and you will manage your life.
