In the 1950s James Vicary conducted a famous piece of research on subliminal advertising: Over a six-week period people were shown two subliminal messages, Eat Popcorn and Drink Coca-Cola, while they watched a film. This message was flashed for 3/1000 of a second once every five seconds; so short it was never consciously perceived.
Despite the fact that the customers were not aware of the messages over the six-week period the sales of popcorn rose 57.7% and the sales of Coca-Cola rose 18.1%.
This piece of research led to ban on the use of subliminal messages within advertising.
And although purposefully embedded subliminal sounds, text, or images are not allowed, careful placement of visible images, and writing to make subliminal suggestions can still be used - which has also been shown to be highly effective.
We are bombarded by advertisements with both obvious direct marketing messages, and more "subliminal" messages all day, every day; on TV and radio, in shops, on billboards and so on.
With repeated exposure this information seeps into our subconscious minds where it is processed and unconscious associations, learning, and even behavioral patterns are established.
Instead of being bombarded by other people's advertisements, "advertise" to your own mind with subliminal messages that will bring positive improvements to your life. Just imagine the effects of "advertising" confidence, success, motivation and happiness to yourself!
Stop creating random (sometimes negative) new patterns of behavior by taking in all sorts of subliminal messages from your surroundings! Instead start to specifically target your subconscious mind with positive subliminal messages to excel only in the specific areas you want to in life!
