Learn German Words

If you are learning a foreign language like German one of the hardest things to do is to learn and remember new words. Here are a couple of tips to help you improve your language skills and to make you a better German speaker.

Read German On A Regular Basis

In order to learn new words, you need to read new words. A good source of material is if you buy a German newspaper or magazine. Pick one article that isn't too long and take time to read it. Use a highlighter pen to mark all the words that you do not understand. Next you will need to get your dictionary and look up the words you have marked.

Take a sheet of paper, make a list of these words and write the translation next to it. Reread your list of words and try to memorise the words and the sounds they makes as you pronounce them. You will retain these words in your short term memory. To make sure that you remember new words you need to repeat this exercise on a regular basis. This means taking an article, reading it, highlighting the new words, making a list and consulting your dictionary for the translation.

If you do this regularly you will find that the list that you write out will get shorter and shorter because you will recognise the same words being used over and over in the articles you read. This works particularly well if you use the same source for your article. Eventually you will find that there are hardly any words highlighted in the articles that you read. It may sound boring and monotonous but this method will guarantee excellent results.
