When we are strongly passionate about something or we find a new hobby that we feel is really suitable for us we want to do everything that we can to be the best at it in a very short period of time. Well, playing guitar is pretty much the same thing for those who love music and want to turn guitar playing into a serious hobby or something more than that. 1. Motivation. Unless you are not strongly motivated you stand no chance. Without motivation you will probably end up quitting before you can play for your friends. So, look deep inside and think if this is something you really want.

2. Natural skills. They say that talent is very important at least when it comes to singing, playing instruments and acting. Without it you will probably learn how to play but you won’t ever be a professional. The good thing is that unlike singers, guitar players can partially overcome their lack of natural skills.

3. A good instructor. Learning is always associated with the idea of having a teacher. There are basically two approaches to this problem. You can either take classes from a professional musician or a teacher, or you can learn how to play the guitar on your own. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. If you go with the instructor you can be sure you will learn everything you need to know from someone who has done this before. The downside is that lessons can be quite expensive and you would have to follow a practice routine set by the instructor. On the other hand, if you learn by yourself you have the freedom to practice whenever you want without spending money on the lessons, but you will have no one to guide you during the learning process. There are many sources from where you can learn and you can become a good guitar player on your own, but everything will be more difficult. You will probably reach some road ends where you have no other way but asking for professional help.

4. A good guitar and other accessories. A good instrument will not only make your music sound better but it will also motivate you to go on improving your sound. Accessories such as amplifiers, guitar effects pedals, home recording tools and so on are also very important so you might want to purchase them from the beginning.

With all these four things at hand you are on your way towards a successful music career. If this is not what you want then you can at least be proud of the fact that you chose a hobby that will allow you to express yourself.
