You may disagree with this statement, but essentially it is possible to train your cat and doesn't need to be tricky either if you know how to train cat. Yes, cats are independent and detached and frequently resist your attempts to make them behave, but they do have a hunger for attention and love from you and naturally enjoy those mouth watering treats you hand out.
A good owner would never wish to deprive their cat of love and attention, but giving them special attention when they behave can work miracles when learning how to train cat.
They associate good behaviour with that nice love from you and try to get it as much as humanly possible. Try and forecast when the cat will have to relieve himself and put him in the litter box, praising him and giving him a tiny treat even if he does not eliminate right then.
This may make him associate the box with something nice and he'll remember it for when he does have need to use it. If he does use the box, praise him some more and give him another unusual treat that he isn't getting at any other time.
Rewarding is an element of how to train cat, whether it's coaching him to use the box or to keep off the counters. It's good to recollect too when attempting to train your cat that you do not need to puzzle him or make it harder on him than it has to be. If you need him to use the litter box, ensure he can get to it simply. Keep doors open in his trail and put the box in an area of the home with small foot traffic or turmoil.
Keep it away from where his food is or where he eats, and even away from where you prepare your food. If you want to train your cat but put obstructions in his way, this can make it very unlikely for him to follow thru with your coaching. Don't put his food on the counter if you do not need him up there. You cannot get him off a certain shelf one day and then ignore him next time he is up there if you would like him to remain off.
Don't shoo him away from the houseplants one day and then don't do that an hour later if he is going back. Cats will not respond unless they are clear about what you need, so remember this when learning how to train cat. They need consistency and they need you to follow thru with your own training efforts to understand your expectancies and to measure up to them, so be aware of your own practices and you are certain to have certain success.
