Left Handed Hair Scissors

If you’re a left handed stylist, it’s a good idea to find comfort while styling hair with left handed hair scissors.

Many left handed stylists make the mistake of adjusting themselves to using right handed scissors, which can be uncomfortable and will never match the natural movement of your left hand. This will greatly influence your hair styling abilities and results, so if you’re left handed then use a left handed scissor instead of turning the right handed scissor around and using it backwards. which is just as effective as using paper cutting scissors the wrong way around.

To identify a true left handed hair scissor, look at the position of the finger holes. The top finger hole should be where you place your finger and the bottom should be where you place your thumb. This is completely the opposite of a right handed scissor and is exactly what you need for swift and comfortable cutting. Some companies offer the option of reversible tension control systems that allow you to set the scissor up with the tension control knob facing you as it would on a true left handed scissor. This is fine for people who want to continue cutting with right handed scissors, but it is still a right handed shear, and certainly not intended for use by a left handed stylist.

Once you have your ideal pair of left handed hair scissors, you’ll want to keep them in pristine condition for smooth and swift cutting with every use. Here are a few tips:

Cleaning: Give the blades a rub down after each use to keep them free from build ups and make sure that your scissor is ready for its next use. If you use a disinfectant, do not use one with a water base as water from any source can harm the scissor. Instead use only oil based products.

Lubricating: After cleaning and drying your scissors, open carefully at a 90 degree angle. Once a day drop one or two drops of oil (best to use Oil with a needle) on the scissors between the blades and around the screw or pivot area that holds the blades together.

Sharpening: Keep your blades katana sharp by getting them sharpened every 500-700 haircuts by a trained sharpener or by the person who sold the scissors to you.

Storage: Scissors need oxygen to breathe, so storage is of upmost importance. Never store scissors in a plastic box, or in a plastic case of any type or have the scissors touch other scissors. A real leather case works the best and many top brands give one with their product.

Follow these maintenance tips and you’ll be cutting and styling like never before with your comfortable left handed scissors especially designed to satisfy you and your customers.
