Lemon Juice: Will It Give You Pucker Power

When I hear someone mention lemon juice I immediately begin to pucker my lips. I love the flavor of lemon juice in and on many foods, but my first thought is the feeling you get when you lick a slice of lemon which is pucker power.

In the summer time, the thought of a large pitcher of lemonade sounds mighty appealing. It has been a favorite for hundreds of years. The lemon tree is believed to have originated in China or India. We do know that the Chinese Emperors enjoyed their lemonade.

Lemon juice not only tastes good (when appropriately sweetened) but it is also highly valued for food flavoring, used as a garnish, household cleaner, and for its wonderful fragrance. To put it mildly, the lemon is a versatile food. They are high in Vitamin C, have an antibacterial effect and are thought to possess antioxidant properties.

This multi-purpose food is famous for delectable deserts. Lemon meringue pies, lemon bars, lemon tarts, and lemon-butter sauce, you name it and lemons are often at the heart of or an important ingredient in our favorite foods. Can you imagine not having lemon-butter sauce with your lobster? Not only are they an important part of many receipts, lemon juice can be good for you. Of course, eating an entire pie might give you all the lemon juice you need for a week, but it will also make you sick. So, stuffing yourself on sweets laced with lemon juice is absolutely not the right way to get the health benefits of lemon juice.

Lemons are easy to juice. The best way to start is to let the lemon reach room temperature. Then gently roll the lemon on the counter pressing it with the heel of your hand. Cut the lemon in half and you can squeeze it with your hand, use a manual juicer, or an electric juicer. Your hand will work, but normally you get much less juice from the lemon so I recommend a manual or an electric juicer.

At Healthy Kitchen Plus we have a great selection of juicers that are manual and electric. I recommend that you go to our site now.
