Lesson Plan: Beware The Blobfish

Because of their amazingly low output of energy, there is little need for extra sustenance.They typically hover just above the sea floor moving incredibly slowly. Thus, through evolution it has become the blob that you now see. When viewed underwater, this fish resembles the human face (although be it incredibly ugly.)

When taken out of the water to be studied or if caught by a fisherman, it will quickly dry up and lose its blob -like form. And while it is a fish found in the bottom of the ocean, the female Blobfish will actually sit on her fertilized eggs that she lays until they hatch.

Science teachers (and health teachers alike) can use this evolutionary anomaly to demonstrate the dangers of laziness. Now, if only scientists could prove that the Blobfish used to have human hands but then evolved them away since it just watched television all day...
