Let Go Of The Past & Find Happiness Today

Guilt is just an emotion. And yet, it grows like an insidious ivy, causing us to punish ourselves years after its initial trigger. Years after it's too late to do what we should have done, or avoided what we shouldn't have, happiness can leak from our lives like a shattered hourglass because of guilt's harmful effects.

It's too easy to have past mistakes set on repeat, replaying over and over, letting feelings such as guilt and regret rule over us like cruel demonic overloads. Caught between the trap of guilt for a past over which we have no further control, worry about a future to which we are nearly blind, and a frustration at these feelings of powerlessness, fixating gives only a momentary feeling of perceived power.

We need to let go of this dead weight and stop carrying it around, allowing it to weigh you down. Don't deny what you've done to create what you have and where you are. Never forget your responsibilities, to yourself and your society. But delete the program that plays only songs of woe and commercials for self-loathing. Cease the spinning cycle that only strengthens itself at your expense. Hangnig on to bitterness and pain from whatever happened back then, prevents you from moving on. .

The past is not our master, unless we allow it to be. Now is not forever, and what got us here does not need to continue taking us onward into what lies beyond. We become victims when we surrender to cycles that harm us.

Holding onto outdated habits, unconstructive thoughts and self-detructive behaviors programs us to give power to the past, instead of the present. In the past, we can do nothing differently, but we have power now. Release the past, and embrace the present and its offspring, the future.

There is nothing anyone can ever do to change what has happened in the past. We all did the best we could. You did your best. Failing at one point does not have to continue indefinitely, but it does if you allow it to rule your existence. Even if you could somehow go back and change things, you were who you were, and you knew only what you knew - thinking a different outcome could be reached with all the variables being the same is just crazy.

That's not to say there isn't a use for the past. We shouldn't just forget it ever happened. It can teach us valuable lessons, for a future over which we have extraordinary control. And weren't there plenty of great things that happened back then... things you haven't been allowing yourself to remember fondly, because of all this nasty guilt? Guilt is gunk, but it can't coat every memory.

You are not your past, what you've been, or what you've done. You are also not the sum total of the wrongs that have been made against you nor the teachings you've received You are you, and that is an identity to which gunk cannot cling unless you let it.
