When it comes to your dogs whining and how you might stop it, you should know that dogs and people can be an awful lot alike. Some feel the need to whine and whimper more often than others. Even though we may not want to accept this theory, we taught them it was ok. When the whining began, we gave them what they wanted just to make it stop.
Some of the different reasons as to why some dogs whine are.
You are leaving and they want to go,( they think they will miss you way to much), they are not feeling well or they want something to eat.
Yes, some of these are good reasons to whine but each one needs to be considered before reacting to it.
Here are a few things that may help out if you have a dog that whines to much.
*Do Not Respond.
When your pet begins to whine, don’t respond with “What’s wrong little fella” and start showing him some affection because if you do you are just reinforcing this bad habit. Your pet learns by whining he is going to get the owners attention. Since one of your dogs favorite things is your attention, the frequency of the whining could possibly increase.
Show your strength and just ignore him. Probably one of the best strategies out there to eliminate the whimpering is ignoring it.
*Rewards For Silence
Once your dog has been quiet for a little while after he has whined, then go ahead and give him some pets and some love.
There are times that your pets whines should not be ignored because they do sometimes whine when in pain or distress.
*Reasons For Certain Whines
If your pet whines during or after meal time it is possible that his digestive system is causing him problems.
If your dog starts to whine while showing signs of limping and no energy, then the problem could be a medical one.
The above symptoms are just a few examples but if they are showing any of the symptoms from above, go and see your vet.
Getting a dog to stop whining is really fairly simple, just ignore the whining and when they are silent reward them, and stick with the program. It is fairly likely the whines will decrease if you follow this strategy.
