As the time in each day remains a constant 24 hours, our obligations and tasks seems to constantly increase. Coming home used to be the downtime you needed and looked forward to before getting up the next day and going about your day again. But for most it is a pitstop or rest area between tasks. We are only resting when we sleep and that is very limited. Am I talking about some busy executive working 50 plus hours a week? A stay at home that has little if any time for herself? Or a senior citizen that just does not get done what they used to get done.
The answer is all of the above. All of these individuals are busy, have limited time and an endless "to-do" list. I am not offering a magic wand to make those obligations disappear but a viable and smart solution to helping manage them all while keeping your sanity. These are tried and true solutions that all can employ for maximum benefit. Small changes and tweaks can produce huge benefits and less stress.
Prioritize
No matter how much you want to get everything done today, it is not going to happen. It is wise in this instance to decide what needs to be done today and what can be put aside for now. This is not to be confused with procrastination. On the contrary, by prioritizing your duties, you are making your first step to reduce your stress and get things accomplished.
Maximize
The time you set aside for each task is precious and essentially keeping you from completing something else you need to get done. Maximize this time and complete as much as you can. Depending on the size of the project, you may have to take breaks, or even transition to another task to resume this later. No matter what, maximize on your time for each time and be as efficient as you can.
Relax
Yes, you can relax. In fact, if you don't learn to relax, all of these tips are useless. Stress, tension, drama, and negativity can affect how efficient we are and the progress we see. Approach all tasks prepared and looking for the end to be success. No matter how great or small - you think success, you get success.
Follow-through
Follow through with your plans, your schedule and order of accomplishing tasks. This can be your "home run" and actually easier to carry out than the other tips combined. Once you have put things in perspective, decided what is most important, and maximized on that time spent working on that task, following-through is a breeze. You have laid the groundwork, now it is time to 'get er done!'
Outsource, Outsource; Don't be afraid to Outsource!
So you probably already know all or most of the advice given. But what most people fail to realize and utilize in their lives is the ability to outsource certain tasks and duties. You cannot do it all, all the time. And that is perfectly fine. Use your community and the services that businesses offer in your community to alleviate your workload and get valuable service. Afterall, time is money. Have someone pick up that drycleaning, do the grocery shopping, transport your great aunt to her weekly doctor appointment. You can do it all, with a little help.
