Lets Talk About Better...
So where are you today and where do you want to be tomorrow, next week or next month. Lets work with an example of money, since it haunts most of us. Instead of seating in front of your tv or computer wishing you were the one buying $150,000 cars like lip balm, shut it off, sit down with a piece of paper and ask yourself: How can I earn more? Look at yourself, your talents, your strengths, your likes, time available and the opportunities offered by your environment. NB: 1. I have not told you to write down what you want to earn cause I don't want you filling that piece of paper with zeros your life and environment cannot give you. I have started with you, then your environment, this is not to limit you, your dreams or goals, but to ground them in reality so that you can start where you are. 2. I have focused on the positive things in you and around you, no need to list down your disadvantages or challenges, they constantly stare at you every waking moment, you don't need to remind yourself; but you need to constantly remind yourself of your strengths and positives. Ok lets go back to that piece of paper, here is an example of what you could write: 1. I would like to pursue my passion in graphic design though I am not trained in the field. I would like get formal training and pursue my career in this field. 2. Am currently working as a personal assistance in a law firm earning $24,000 per year, working 40 hours per week. 3. I have the capacity to work an additional 8 hours per week, 5 days a week and 8 hours a day on weekends. 4. I have seen several restautrants advertising for part-time workers for about $10 per hour, which could mean an additional $560 per week (56 hours *10), which I can put aside to begin part-time graphic design classes next year. 5. Let me browse the internet for possibilities of a part time job in my area and tomorrow I will enquire in the specific restaurants I saw adverts for part-time workers. There it is, it is not glamorous and mind blowing like the opportunities to make thousands of dollars doing nothing, that are pushed down our throats in the internet every minute. But it is real, its is possible and should you implement it next week you will be better off, for you will be $560 closer to your goal. This is just and example to show how you should let your thought process move from your goal, to your current situation, to your ability or capacity and then to the possibilities your environment offers. Let me give you another example on weight which is a phenomenon that plagues many of us: 1. I am overweight, inflexible and simple movements exhaust me. 2. I would like it to stop being a pain to move around. I want to enjoy moving about swiftly. 3. When I was younger I enjoyed swimming, running and hiking. 4. I could put aside 1 hour in the morning before I go to work for exercises. 5. There is a running track near my apartment and I could begin to run a few laps tomorrow morning. As simple as that, keeping it simple makes it harder to make excuses not to do it. There is no inconvenient diet schedule or tedious, complicated exercise program, just waking up 1 hour earlier and going back to a sport you once enjoyed. Make striving for better a continuous process in your life and you will be amazed at what you can achieve in one year by pushing yourself each day to work towards better than yesterday. It is through this small steps and the encouragement we get when we see small results, that we reach the big goals.
