Lifeguards Start Looking For Jobs Now

Lifeguarding can be a fun and profitable job during the summer. Whether it is a Municipality, Country Club or Homeowner’s Association, many pools have lifeguards at them, and in some areas, are required by local ordinances to have lifeguards present while open. Potential lifeguards could work for a Municipality, Country Club or Homeowner’s Association or they may find work with a local pool management company. Pool management companies provide lifeguards and lifeguard services to various commercial pool facilities; as well as, pool maintenance and pool repair.

As most lifeguarding jobs are seasonal, most lifeguards are students or teachers. Over the last few years, a number of active adults have become pool managers for part-time work. Being a lifeguard teaches a person about time management, rules and process enforcement and leadership (plus many other valuable traits).

Potential lifeguards need to understand that the best time to secure a job is during the winter time. This allows them to get all certifications necessary, go through application processes, and get proper training before being able to actually work. If you are a new lifeguard, a 32-hour Red Cross (or equal) Lifeguard Training Class to be completed. Lifeguards have to be re-certified every 3 years, and that requires a class that can take up to 10 hours to be completed.

Many potential guards start to look for employment in May or after school has completed for the semester, and learn of the many requirements needed to be a lifeguard before they can actually work. With the time needed to complete these various requirements, potential guards will find work elsewhere. Had they spent the time to accomplish the requirements, they would have found jobs making more money than a burger flipper or ticket taker (not to mention that they would have had a nice tan!)

Most lifeguards find the work extremely satisfying. The hours are, generally, excellent for the normal demographic of a lifeguard (not too early in the morning). The work is exciting and fun. The responsibility is gratifying due to the immense importance of the job. The work environment is normally beautiful (did I mention the tan?).

All in all, lifeguarding can be very rewarding and challenging work. It is extremely important to get ahead of the game when attempting to find work. All organizations hiring lifeguards are doing so now, and want to have all of their hiring needs completed by the end of March so that they may concentrate on certifications and training.

Many companies assist potential lifeguards in gaining their certifications prior to training. USA Pools, www.usapools.com, even provides financial restitution to guards that receive their certifications and work for them as a lifeguard. Imagine a company rewarding its personnel in this economy!

As summer creeps up on us (yes, the cold will move on), be proactive in finding the job you want. If lifeguarding is it, secure employment NOW, as it is out there for everyone. Good Luck and safe swimming.
