Little Things You Can Do To Maintain Your Health And Wellness

Today's world is stressful and busy, and it seems there are just not enough hours in the day to actually slow down and relax. Because of our busy schedules, eating right and taking certain measures to keep our bodies functioning well often take a back seat to everything else. We tend to put others first and neglect our own needs, and this, too, can take its toll. It's time to start putting ourselves first, and by doing so, we can still be there for others while being there for ourselves.

Here are a few things you can do to stay healthy and happy:

* Get plenty of rest. Though this may seem impossible at times, make it a priority. Lack of sleep can weaken the body's defenses, making fighting infection, injury, and illness more difficult. It can also affect work performance and driving, increasing your chances of an otherwise avoidable accident.

* Eat right. This is often challenging as we rush from one place to another, grabbing a bite here and there from our favorite fast food places. Prepare a good, balanced meal the night before for your breakfast or lunch, including some healthy snacks for those mid-day cravings.

* Exercise regularly. This is actually easier than you may think. Rather than taking the elevator, take the stairs. If you need to get somewhere that is only a few blocks away, walk, don't drive. Take the dog for a walk whenever possible. These small changes can have big results and you'll be better for it.

* If something just doesn't feel right, get a check-up. You know your body, so if you've started to notice some issues that worry you, don't put it off. A minor problem can turn very serious the longer you wait to see a doctor. Even if you think it's probably nothing, see a doctor to be sure. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health.

You only have one body, so start with these simple steps to keep it working properly day after day. Listen to your body and don't ignore warning signs of a possible serious condition. Give yourself permission to put yourself first.
