Living With Debt In West Bromwich – Consider Bankruptcy
We have had calls from Solihull, Telford and West Bromwich recently all seeking to see if they can go bankrupt. We were able to advise them that the local court for them all is Birmingham Civil Justice Centre. It is based on Bull Street in Birmingham. The process for going bankrupt in Birmingham is that firstly to call and make an appointment with the court to present your petition. At the time of writing this there is almost no wait for an appointment. Next you need to appear at the allotted time. You will need three copies of the statement of affairs and the petition. This will be checked by the clerk. If your papers are in order, you will be sent to the payment section to pay your fee. This will be either £450 or £600 depending on if you qualify for a fee remission. This should take about 10 minutes. After this there is a wait while your file is opened. When the court staff have done this, (which seems to take them about an hour), you are taken down to see the Judge. You can easily wait here another hour before the Judge calls you in. I always accompany my clients in and explain to the Judge that proper advice has been given. The order is then made. After this it is back upstairs again, for another wait until the order is produced. If you need to go bankrupt in Birmingham, you will need to set aside a full half day.
