While a local HDD is cheaper because you only need a CD, a flash drive, or other forms of external storage to back up your data, there are also high risks involved such as the possibility of damage or theft. Online backup servers are more expensive but there is a lower risk to your data. Of course, there is still a possibility of crashing and hacking but there are better security measures set in place to help protect your data. Some people choose to utilize both local HDD and online backup servers to ensure that their data are backed up properly. If you want to be on the safe side, then it wouldn’t hurt to use both back up options as you’ll have multiple copies of the files you need.
